Plenary Session 1 -  Vision-based Global Collaboration for Asia Pacific ITS

Prof Masao Sakauchi, Japan
Prof Masao Sakauchi is Vice Chairman of ITS Japan since 2002. He is also Director General, National Institute of Informatics, Japan and Professor, Institute of Industrial Science, at the University of Tokyo. He received his B.Sci, M.S and Ph.D degrees in Electronics Engineering from the University of Tokyo. He has acted as, General Chairman and Program Chairman of over 10 International Conferences and Workshops, including the IEEE International Conference of Multimedia Processing and Systems (IEEE Multimedia 96) (1996), ITSC 99 (1999). He has written over 430 papers in the research fields of multimedia databases and ITS.
 
Plenary Session 2 -  ITS: The US Perspective

Prof C. Michael Walton, USA
Prof C. Michael Walton is Professor of Civil Engineering and holds the Ernest H. Cockrell Centennial Chair in Engineering at The University of Texas at Austin. For more than 35 years, he has pursued a career in transport policy and engineering analysis. He has served as senior editor and contributing author for a variety of technical reference books and manuals and as a member of the editorial board for several international journals. Prof Walton has contributed to more than 250 publications in the areas of ITS, freight transport, and transportation engineering, planning, policy and economics. He is currently actively engaged in research or consulting relationship related to ITS with approximately 30 states in the US.
 
Plenary Session 3 - Public Private Partnership for ITS Development

Prof S.K. Jason Chang, Chinese Taipei
Prof Jason Chang is Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering at National Taiwan University and Visiting Professor of China Academy of Transportation Sciences. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Maryland, and is currently the Executive Director of ITS-Chinese Taipei, BOD member of the ITS Asia-Pacific Forum, and International Program Committee member of the World Congress on ITS. He is also an advisor to the Mayor and City Government of Taipei and was deeply involved in the development of Taiwan's National ITS Plan and Policy as the Director General of Science and Technology Office in the Ministry of Transportation and Communications from 2001 to 2002. He has been invited as an advisor on transportation infrastructures and sustainable urban development for various cities in Taiwan, India and China and for international institutes, including the Energy Foundation, the World Resource Institute, GTZ, UNDP, and the World Bank. Prof Chang's research focuses on public transportation, transportation economics and policy, advanced public transportation, and electronic payment systems.
 
Plenary Session 4 - Cooperative Vehicle and Highway Systems for Telematics and Ubiquitous Services

Dr Young-Jun Moon, Korea
Dr Young-Jun Moon is Research Fellow and Director of the Advanced Transportation Technology Research Center at The Korea Transport Institute (KOTI). He received his B.Sci and M.S in Industrial Engineering from Ajou University in Korea and his Ph.D in Civil Engineering from the University of Illinois. His research interests range across all areas of ITS, with specific focus on advanced vehicle and highway system, vehicle-infrastructure cooperative system, traffic safety and security, traffic engineering for operation and management, transportation network design modelling and transportation facility design.

This session is for various countries in the Asia Pacific region to inform and update the ITS developments in their respective countries.
ITS Funding, Planning and Implementation Strategies
This session is for sharing government policies (for example, public-private partnership, national strategies on ITS, etc) with regards to how ITS projects are planned, funded and implemented.
ITS – The Next Lap
This session will discuss the future of ITS (for example, communications technologies to support future ITS applications, and the emergence of new ITS solutions or application), especially on a national level and in the Asia-Pacific region.
